Notts hosted newly elected Cambridge United (they replaced Bradford Park Avenue), the first meeting of the oldest and newest league clubs. There was no public transport on bank holidays in those days, so I imagine a good many of the 15,700 in attendance resorted to Shanks's pony. For my dad, uncle, two brothers and myself it was a little over 5 miles each way, having won 4-1 the walk home was the easier.

We were promoted as Champions that season. A repeat scoreline on Saturday would be most welcome.
