Have we too many players on loan?

Loan system good way of getting some of the younger players, experience / game time & and the whole ups and downs of league football - but with the clubs present position, lacking numbers in defence , should one or two have been given more of a chance to prove themselves, with their parent club?

Shaughnessy - handful of games, some dodgy bits, but generally ok
O"Connor -pretty much as above, if anything looked more assured
Halme, seems to be rated above these two, but surely one of the others, would have been better as backup CB, than even younger Davis , Forshaw or Phillips.

Even Tom Pearce seems to have fallen down the pecking order, injuries yes, but showed some real flair towards end of last season, can see him moving on, once Douglas / Berradi and possibly Davis return. Then there is Lewis Coyle, we maybe have weathered the storm at RB, but has Shackleton already gone ahead of him in MB thinking.

Yes MB & co see players day to day in training, & matches, but we are lacking bodies in defence, some reports say club is tight for funds again, so why not see, if maybe one or two, could go all the way etc.

Both on loan (out), and on loan (at ER).

i trust the system Marcelo is using, even with the young players

heres just a taste of the british and irish players we have who could play in the u23s

bpf huffer male rae coyle hosannah shackleton denton pearce davis shaughnessy oconnor kitching phillips mccalmont gotts stevens nicell odour kamwa clarke roberts edmondson dalby wilks

theres just 25 of them, and theres plenty more

not forgetting the talented foreign youth brought in too, the likes of miazek halme struijk diaz rey ideguchi machuca balboa grot sarkic temenuzhkov, just 11 there, you could feezably play that as a starting 11 in some kind of bizarre formation

now it would not be practical to keep all of those at the club, sending them out on loan to gain first team football is crucial for their development, I've named just 36 young players there, now its true you keep the best ones at the club if they have a chance of being in the first team, but for the ones who are still good but not the best of the group, let them get football elsewhere so they come back to leeds as better players

no, basically theres no real monetary value to sending them out, so, if we are STILL sending them, its because they definately dont feature in Bielsa´s plans right now, and obviously need the experience if they are going to change his mind.

The likes of Harry Kane have developed by being sent out on loan. All the leading coaches utilise it, Guardiola and Pochettino renowned for developing players do. Like most things there can be an abuse of it. But if we have a promising kid, sending him out to the bread and butter of lower league football will be a good reality check and help them understand the pressures involved in proper competitive matches against physically stronger players.

Football has moved on since the days of Reserve matches and squads when you had the Central League and Football Combination league, be it for better or worse, its almost madness to expect a young kid to debut for first team on the back of the current underage systems where there is now more emphasis on learning skills than physical contact.

The question wasn't about using the loan system, it was whether we have too many (in or out)

wouldnt say too may out, if Bielsa feels hees not going to use them for the remainder of this season, they should be out getting experience. Regardind the 3 in, i think 3 is a solid number, unfortunately, they are cr@p. Id get rid of all 3 and try to get better in the window....
