    Music question

The Rotherham tech Christmas bash in 1977 at the old Clifton Hall featured two bands, one band went onto to have number 1 in the USA, the other band featured a musician who also went onto have a number 1 in the US. Can you name the bands and the musician?

I knew Joe Elliott when he worked at Craven Taskers in Darnall about 76/77.

When he said he was quitting to join a rock band everyone laughed. No ones laughing now.

I was at that show, being a third year in the welding and plating set. Think John Parr was in Ponders End by that time. Were they the remnants of Bitter Suite?

I'm guessing one of the bands was Human League, they had a number 1 there with "Don't You Want Me" I think.

Pete Willis (original guitarist)) worked in our Drawing Office @ BOC
Remember the Manager telling him he was throwing away a potential successful career.

2 1/2 albums later he may have been right !

Checked the date again given the first comment as I was doubting my memory. It was Thursday 21st December 1978, not 1977 as I originally said. Top of the bill was Ponders End with one John Parr, later to have a US number 1 with St Elmo's fire, featuring. The supporting band was Def Leppard,. I think this was the first gig with Rik Allen on drums.
I found the tatty remains of the ticket in my old leather jacket when I cleared my mum and dads place out. Fond memories.
