    On This Day…….

    ……..well, OK, yesterday ().

One of the most pivotal results in the Club’s history. The win at Pittodrie the month before gave the hope. This one gave the belief. And both were done with 10 men at the most difficult away venues to visit against both of our direct rivals.

Was at most games home & away that season including these 2. We were sat in among the celtic fans near the front of the then newer stand. Dont know how we got out alive. What a team we had then & what a season.

I was serving in NI at the time and was 2ic of the guard in West Belfast and the Sergeant who was guard commander that evening was thankfully a massive Arab.He allowed me to bring in a radio and at fulltime we were both dancing for joy in the guardroom. Our time in Belfast was drawing to a close and we all made it home to witness history a few weeks later.

The Black Watch emergency tour of NI ended on the day we were playing Kilmarnock, meanwhile in Belfast we were all preparing to fly home to West Germany where the regiment were based.Fortunately the flight home was delayed and before we boarded to the dreaded no comm's for hours The Terrors had ran riot and were already 4-0 up.

Yep - the following Saturday after Celtic, United had Killie at home, while the other two in the top three faced off at Pittodrie. More to follow……………………..
