    Mot

Ive just taken my motor to the garage to get mot'ed.
Last Sunday some swine smacked my wing mirror.
Its one of these motors that has an indicator on the wing mirror.
Cost of indicator £86 not including the rest of the thing.Mot failure if the indicator is broke.

What happened to the sticking your f**king arm out the window b*ll*cks in the old days?

Its getting to be a joke.

    Amen to that!

While we are at it, DPF's and Catalytic converters? Utter nonsense, good old Carbon Monoxide never did me any harm.... wibble.

My MOT failed a week ago due to the number plate light not working... the b@starding number plates are reflective and even when the light that is on , it has the power of about 4 candles anyway!! Madness.

As of 2017, still over 2000 in existence, half still Taxed and MOT'd. Far too young to have ever been in one. I mind my mum having a mk1 escort... that was a bucket of ****e though. I had a MK4 Escort, loved that thing... sadly they dont just make any decent cars anymore!! Over Engineered pomp.

New test rules have just came out. They are obviously trying to squeeze older cars out of service. Any fluid leak apart from water is a fail. Take my 26 year old campervan, it has a small oil leak - hardly even class it as a drip never mind a leak but come next test I will have to pay for garage to take the engine to bits to fix it or put it off the road altogether.

The day before the mot could you not blast the underside of engine with power washer ( hot if possible ) and maybe you might get away with it.

What a surprise, the new MOT rules are the EU's fault.

Perhaps I'm not sure how thorough they are. I'd rather try and find a friendly mechanic who could push it through.

That's another cracker. DPF (Diesel Particulate filter), a lot of cars are fitted with them these days to clean up the emissions. They can fail or the sensor that monitors it can fail. Basically as far as I am aware it's a material a bit like charcoal. Price for new parts if it flags up on your test? Between £1500 and £2500.

Both the government and the manufacturers want stricter rules on MOT's. Manufacturers build cars in a way so that you have to take them back to them to be fixed, rather than your local garage. You cant even change a bulb in a car these days without stripping out batteries, air boxes and headlights. Its deliberate and how do they get you? they claim you need OE parts or else it will void the warranty. That makes things expensive, but it also means they can reel you in with 'attractive' MOT and service package deals.

Stricter rules make manufacturers money, big money and its not a coincidence.
