I think imho it’s time T/S forgot about this dream, this team,Club are nowhere near what we should be,we are a middle table Div 1 team at best & I will except that if we build. How many years is it that we had our own goalkeeper.I think that’s why a few decent managers have walked a way because T/S still wants to run before we can walk.
Lol, I think there are a number of issues at play here. Firstly, PW makes a perfectly valid point that January signings are usually aimed at bringing players in who can improve things immediately. Secondly, it's fair to say (imo anyway) that PW's prospects of remaining manager are improved by NOT spending money. Money signings in January are risky for a manager and Warne is nothing if not cautious. Thirdly he states the prospects of a manager depend on league position. That's normally true but I'm not sure it is with RUFC and PW. I have heard several people who were very, very bullish at the start of the season (as was I as I predicted a top place finish!) now saying PW needs more time and next season we'll be much better. I can see no justification whatsoever for this but I don't make the decisions so we'll wait and see.
Any signings made in Jan do need to improve things, but they don't need to be more skillful than our current players they just have to be fitter, which will be an improvement.
We have a midfielder who is creative and good on the ball. He is on loan at Bradford at the moment.
He has also only just come back from injury, if he's still fit in Jan then maybe.
There was, without doubt, a change mood from TS the back half of last season. He did not spend reckless money in the last Jan window yet came out of the season with a profit.
Then, in the close season, he made a comment that, as a club, we were in a much better place - that appeared odd in view of our relegation.
What Warne says in this article stacks up with the current thinking (we ajnt busting the bank on short term gains).
My feeling is that Stewart has moved away from the boom bust nature of football, highlighted in the Evans years and the numerous sackings of managers. By saying he thinks we are in a better place, I think he means we are going for a long term building process. In that sense week by week results are not the sole objective. Yet, he must be sure he had the right management in place and stick by it.
The mistake TS made initially was to try to run before walk (using Lols analogy). The 2 promotions under Evans must have made this football millarky seem easy. But it was build on nothing.
Heres to building long term (if this is the new philosophy).
The club showed a very healthy profit last season,we have reduced the staff and wage bill and we finish up with the disastrous team selection yesterday. That first half was the worst performance I've seen for a long time. We've had the excuses of injuries at the club but why are we bringing in so many players with medical problems? Is it because we can get them to accept lower wages and offer them a long contract which they will gladly take? This next month will tell us more about the chairman's ambitions for this club because a lot of fans coming out of the ground were asking why we have not invested that money in adding new players to this depleted squad. To win only two games at home is not good and the entertainment value is so low,so Mr.Chairman it's down to you to correct this worrying trend.
