    Michelin

Take over the Michelin factory and start producing a new ALBA tyre brand.

ScotGov should DEMAND that Scotland's police (2,000 patrol cars x 30,000 miles a year = 60 million miles per year) should be fitted with 16" tyres made in Dundee. Police Scotland run a total of 4,000 vehicles.

Council vehicles and NHS Scotland should do the same.

Potentially 200 million miles per year . . . a lot of tyres.

Michelin Dundee Current Production is 100,000 tyres per week, 5.2 million per year . . . enough for 1.3 million cars.

There are 30 million cars in the UK with approx. 33% (10m) requiring 16" tyres.

There is still a market for 16" tyres and no need to close Dundee.

Boba your spot on, a bit like what Trump is trying to do across the pond, unfortunately the price a,ways wins, my work has 60k vehicles on the road, tyres cost about £17 a pop, they’re shyte and don’t last, but someone high up thinks it’s a bargain

That's a massive fleet of vehicles and will probably need 240,000 tyres every year alone.

Royal Mail maybe . . Then add Amazon, DPD etc ?

ALBA tyres made in Dundee could be designed specially for new zero-emission fuel cell hydrogen vehicles to be recycled to produce electricity for electrolysis to produce more hydrogen fuel instead of being dumped at sea.

That would give Dundee a big lead over conventional throw-away old tyres.

Have you been invited to join the task force Deetox? It's the price of the tyres that's the problem, I think. any ideas about how to make them cheaper?

I worked for a rubber moulding company in Aberdeen who pay £10.60 an hour for unskilled rubber moulders - that includes shift premium for a three shift cycle - these guys are much more skilled than the process operators at Michelin and earn significantly less. The company is booming.
Happy workforce?.....not much to live on especially if company is booming.

Happy because they know they have fairly secure jobs.

Take your word for that but just a wee bit more than the living wage....which really should be called liveable as opposed to living as there cannae be much left over to live.

    Sounds quite physical as well.

    Manual but not physical.

Obviously they'd be happier if they were earning better wages. And that's the starting wage there are other jobs that pay more. And overtime of course.
