Mine was the late great Jackie Milburn.

Saw him in my first match which my uncle took me to. A friendly against the Smoggies before football restarted full time just after the war. I'm told there was between 35 and 40,000 there but to a little lad it looked like the entire population of Newcastle.

We won by the way 3-1 and we were in the old second div then and Boro in the top flight.

Micky Burns was the hero when I was a kid....helped that his song included a swear word.

Same with me Sherwood - Milburn, then White.

But I always loved Jimmy Scoular of course.
We used to call some poor lass at school "Jimmy Scoular legs".
    Christ, kids can be cruel!

As a 'keeper myself I have to include Ronnie Simpson.

Then, when I was old enough to go regularly, John Anderson.
