I think the differences seemed bigger when I was young, but realised a lot of the schemed were not that much different as I grew older. Certainly some had their own character, Lochee and the Hilltown, mostly because they were older. While often characterised as tough, full of this or that, for the most part, both then and now, the schemes are mostly filled with ordinary working class people just getting on with their lives. A lot of schemes had patches that are/were more run down, often around the pubs (or is that just my perception?). In Douglas, that seemed to be around the Lea Rig, but by the time you got to Ballandean Road, people kept nice gardens etc. Could say much the same for other schemes.
