Collapse
All teams have bad spells but at what stage does a blip become a collapse? Looking at other teams in the league that have had poor spells they only seem to last two or three matches. How long has ours gome on?

Blip or collapse.
I've said all season 4/5 is about where we are. I think thats about where we will be.
Its fixtures against the better opposition. If it was spread out over 10 games you wouldnt see a peak or trough.
Before Nigel was sacked or just after Mac came in I'm sure I remember the owners/ management targeting THIS season to reach the playoffs. I may be wrong & wait to be told so.
I'm just trying to put a bit of positive spin on things. If I'm right then we're still on track & maybe not all the wheels have come off the bus just yet.
Maybe last seasons efforts raised expectations too much making the disappointment harder to take.
If we have to go thru playoffs again so be it. It was brilliant last time ... Well up until the 90th min & Zam... Can't bring myself to say it !
Blip or Collapse? - more like a prolapse (everything's fallen out in a bit of a mess, but there's still a chance to scoop it all up and shove it back in its rightful place...)
In the recent bad spell we have lost to Fulham and Brighton on the one hand and Middlesborough and Wolves on the other. We have also drawn with Norwich.Originally Posted by Rattea
Since Jan we have also beaten Ipswich and drawn with Bournemouth, both away - and on any count good results.
Though inconvenient for your beliefs, the effect of injuries seems more significant than the quality of the opposition. We can lose to anybody !
Its a blip, none of this would have happened had Martin not got injured. If he comes back after the break we'll see a different side, even if he isn't match fit.
Missing him just shows how good he is, and how hard it is to replace a player of that calibre.
Our whole set up is based around him, its not so easy to change a system that your players aren't set up for.
Blip or Collapse?
How can we tell? A blip is something that you recover from, a collapse probably isn't. So until we know whether we are going to recover from it, we can't say which one it is.
I remember Billy Connolly talking about when people would come up to him and say "Are you who I think you are?" and he would answer "How do I know, it depends who you think I am."
If you had this run in November then it would look like a blip; but when a dip in form happens amplifies the scale.
For example if Steven Gerard had made a mistake in a game in August he wouldn't have been blamed for costing Liverpool the league, last season.
In reality a loss in March is no more costly than a loss in September, it just feels like it.
6 league games between 19/8 and 20/9, Bournemouth's form was LLDDLD - 3pts from 18... didn't end their season... they just happened to follow that run with 7 wins from their next 8 games!!!
