Thank you, Palmyman. A simple league table comparing players of yesteryear with players of today can be very misleading. For example, much has been made in the media this week of the fast bowler, Jimmy Anderson, becoming England's greatest ever wicket taker with 384 wickets in 100 test matches at an average of 29.74: but Fred Trueman took 307 wickets in 67 test matches at an average of 21.57. Whose performance is the better: Anderson's or Trueman's? Likewise Derek Lyle has scored 76 goals in 189 starts and 63 appearances as a substitute against Billy Houliston's 74 goals in 155 starts (no substitutes in those days). So who is the more prolific goal scorer, Lyle or Houliston? Jimmy Rutherford was before even my time but with 66 goals in 65 games I would suggest that he can lay claim to being our most prolific goal scorer ever despite scoring far fewer goals than Jim Patterson whom I still regard as our best ever signing.

Albertz your list appears to be including sub appearances but as deference to the players of the past who made many appearances before subs were allowed Queens do not present trophies for 100, 200, appearances etc until they are start appearances. Wee Burnsy has made 296 so it looks like he will miss out on his 300th this season unless he plays the last two league games and the first two play - off ties if we make it. See page 27 of current programme by official stat man Andy Penn.
