    Hedges felt helpless

Gutted Ryan Hedges admits he felt helpless as Barnsley were relegated to League One.

Winger Hedges started the season brightly with three goals in the first four games of the season.

However, an injury kept him out around Christmas and after the New Year he failed to nail down a spot in the side adding just six more sporadic appearances as the Reds went down on the final day of the campaign.

And he said: “It’s never nice to be relegated but especially when you are left out of the team and don’t have a chance to make an impact on the team. “It was frustrating, I felt I’d started really well but couldn’t tie a place down.

“I was injured around Christmas so missed a lot of games in a short period, then the new manager came in and I never really got back in the side.

“The last few games were probably some of the toughest times I have had because I just wasn’t involved at all at such an important time for the club.”

So ditch the negativity , get your head down in pre season , nail down a place in the team and fire us back to the championship .

There are a number of players at the club who if they turn up to the league one party should see us doing well .

What I personally want to start hearing about is the season to come and leave last season where it is , in the past .

The players that came in last season weren't quite good enough for the championship at this stage of their early careers .

It doesn't mean they can't be successful in league one and become better players as a result given it's a young group .

First job with the new coach is to clear away the negativity as demonstrated by Hedges comments , it's gone lad , nowts going to change so put it behind you and look forward .

The new coach needs to come in and put sessions on in pre season that the players buy in to , make it enjoyable and bind the squad together .

To tell the truth and I've given it much thought it doesn't matter what we as fans think about the credentials of the new coach because it's the players who have to believe in him when all is said and done .

As much as the recruitment was flawed at championship level we do have a very good nucleus at league one level , once the confidence is returned with a coach they can believe in then there's enough talent at this level to have a very good season .

It's very rare in football to get a second chance but because the group is young and possibly miss managed to a certain extent doesn't mean they can't fulfill the potential that the club thought they had , even if a took a step back to bring it out .

Looking at league one and the teams who were eventually successful we have more than enough to do very well in my opinion .

The only thing that will put a spanner in the works is an absolute nut jack such as the previous coach .

All we need is a guy who the players respect and enjoy working for and the talent should do the rest , which is what Hecky brought early on in his tenure .

Optimistic , which is something I'm not always known for .

If Hedges means that then fair enough, lets hope he will be doubly determined to put it right next season.
He might have a point as well, when you think how Jose messed several players around for no apparently logical reason.
