Im glad that you arent as well Mac
God, when was the last time I opened??
Must be nearly 40 years ago!!
I suddenly feel very old!! If they play with a beach ball I might spot the 'wrong 'un'!!
I'm not ***ist but a woman commentating on cricket just doesn't seem right!
Why's that MoP? There's some very talented female players out there, many play in the local leagues and are better than a lot of the men... Including me! Nothing wrong with their knowledge of the game, and more interesting than some of the male commentators
I'm not sure Adi, I know that their knowledge of the game is as good as any man, and they're not going to employ a person to
commentate who knows nothing about the game but call me old fashioned or a dinosaur but to me it just doesn't
seem right. I might feel different in 10 years when it becomes the norm!
Okay...you’re old fashioned and a dinosaur.
Seriously though...aren’t you assuming that the best summarisers have to be ex-top flight players?
I don’t think that’s true...some ex-players, Boycott springs to mind, talk bollux imo much of the time, while some of the greatest commentators, eg Arlott and Blofeld, have had relatively humble playing experiences.
Women, again imo, are just as well equipped to commentate...but nothing like as well equipped to play.
Isa Guha and Ebony-Jewel Cora-Lee Camellia Rosamond Rainford-Brent both impress with their cricket knowledge and presentation skills, and are former players.
But some of the earlier ones, particularly on TMS, very much smacked of inclusivity and were frankly embarrassing. I am an avid listener to TMS but would turn it off (maybe 10 years ago) in the early days of inclusivity.
Now however things are much better and, although it seems odd to hear a female voice coming from the hallowed halls of Arlott, Johnners, Mosey and Blofield, it doesn't detract from the output
Donna Symmonds set the bar quite high two or three decades ago.
I think the female commentary on the world cup was pretty good, quite enjoyed it, and I don't think the lack of 'having been there' mattered, but along with most things these days there is an obsession with pushing females into commentary just to get the PC/virtue signalling points up - IMO some of the females commentating on Men's football are really poor, as was the Channel 5 anchor for the cricket world cup. It'd be nice to get to a position where the best person for the job was actually doing that job. Females commentating on Male sports, great - IF they are up to it
