£150k is a joke. Does anyone know how this compares to any other similar cases? We always seem to get a harsh deal. Wonder whether we should employ a decent solicitor to fight our case!!

In any case as it's 5 years old I am presuming that we have been aware of the potential fine and budgeted accordingly!!!

Might seem harsh but fire door was locked and panic probably set in for some, yes there was no fire but still it could have cost someone damage or even their life

    Correct.
It sounds like lessons have been learnt from this incident and procedures have been tightened up.
Rules and Regulations are there for a reason. At least there wasn't a fire and no one got hurt.

Judge David Dixon said that beer festival guests had been escorted to fire escape which was locked but that neither defendant was to blame for the mistake because it was down to "human error".

"Centreplate's duty manager tried to direct those with mobility issues to the lifts, but they didn't arrive," said Judge Dixon.

"As a consequence, the visitors were directed to the service lifts, which again didn't arrive."

Judge Dixon said staff did not know how to use the four evacuation chairs and guests were not fully evacuated until 15 to 20 minutes after the alarm first sounded.

Based on that £150,000 sounds like a bargain

I was at the Beer Festival and have only just realised that this case related to that day. There was no sign of any smoke or fire, so nobody appeared to be panicking. I was led to a locked exit door, then had to double back. Yes, it was a bit shambolic, but it was still possible to leave the Beer Festival via the terracing and walk down onto the pitch, which I did. No sure if those in wheelchairs would have been able to get to the pitch though. Obviously somebody (who?) must have been responsible for checking emergency exits, lifts, etc were all ok, before letting people into the Beer Festival.

I'd agree, if there had actually been a fire the result could have been fatal. The authorities have to harshly punish otherwise standards would slip with eventually tragic and totally preventable consequences.

£150k would put many out of business, but the figure will reflect the size and means of the organisation. A fish and chip shop would not be given this fine.

Had there been an incident and someone was killed because of a locked door then there may well be no more club.

Looks like £150k isn’t that bad after all.
