When it's Er lay in the morning

My memories of going away with the Albion in the sixties were travelling on clapped out coaches of Kendricks of Princes End. He had some nice coaches as well but he used the ones on their last wheels for us low life footy fans. The nicest one we ever went on was to Pompey in the 1968 Cup tie, he must have slipped up there.
Miss Pompey 1968 was paraded around the pitch before kickoff, she was a small plumpish red head with an Alan Ball hairstyle. We later saw her as nekkid as a jaybird in the latest edition of Parade magazine.
Most games were Saturday afternoon kick offs and we had to suffer Ed Stewpot Stewart on the way with songs like, Early In the Morning, Cinderella Rockerfella, Happy Talk etc.
We later joined the supporters club and travelled on coaches of Sealandair organised by Harold Whitehouse. Those were always breaking down as well.
If we got to a ground with time to spare we would have a walk around the town, I still remember the smell of fruit, veg, and fish at Stoke market and the delightful streets of Derby by the Baseball Ground, the similar ones by Maine Road and the lush pitch of Filbert Street.
The grounds have gone but the memories remain.

Ah, the nostalgia, going to football was far more enjoyable back in those days, as were most aspects of life. Well, I am of an age that would think like that!!!!

I remember going to Filbert Street and parking in a designated field some distance from the ground.

We were shepherded a different way on leaving the ground and we finally found the car three hours after the final whistle! 😤

Parking for the new King Power Stadium is no better than when Leicester played at Filbert Street.

I recall we used to park by a canal, or was it a river?

The game itself was more enjoyable back then, still a simple game played by men instead of babies.
You never saw players rolling about after a tackle.
