What a song.

Very sad news, dead at 63.
Ghost Town......one of THE great singles of all time in my opinion even though I wasn’t especially into that genre of music.
What a song.

At only 63 too. Was always a fan of Hall whose dour demeanour masked not only the demons from his past but also some brilliant song writing. Met him a couple of times back in the day when he used to drink in the same bar and seen The Specials live a few times.
Although I like quite a lot of his solo stuff, The Specials were something else and an important band to so many people. So many good songs but "Ghost Town" was the perfect record for the time and being in Coventry myself then, summed up the situation so well.
I bought the last re-incarnation of the Specials "Encore" album in 2019 and really enjoyed it. Jerry Dammers may be forever linked with the band and it's impossible for me to think of them without any of the founding members but the Specials will always be about Terry Hall's vocals. A sad passing.RIP Terry.
I thought it was the bloke with Lenny the Lion, I was about to say he's been dead years.
Such a sad day, RIP!
Very sad news. I worked in Cov from 73 to 85 and witnessed the decline of what was, at the outset, a vibrant city with full employment. Ghost Town summed up the times perfectly. RIP Terry
Terry Hall once came into Hepworth Menswear in Solihull without Lennie the Lion.
I didn’t know who he was, it was my manager who told me after he’d left the shop.
A very nice bloke actually, a real gentleman.
I remember a well know Irish comedian of the early 80’s called Charlie Daze.
He pointed at a shoe he liked on our display and said to me,
“A pair of doze in a syze noine please”
I duly went and got him a pair and requested he sit down and try them just to make sure.
He replied in thick Irish accent.....
“Don’t worry lad.....if day don’t fit I’ll wear the feckin box instead!”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
An iconic musical figure from my youth gone.
Only last night I bought tickets for Coventry away and began reminiscing about my last visit there which was in 2011 to see The Specials in the concert arena beneath the Ricoh Arena, then I wake up to this sad news.
RIP Terry, thanks for the music.
