I'll never be convinced that a system that takes heat from air, transfers it to cold water then circulates that water around a CH system can take enough heat from the air when the temperature is low and contains little or no latent can properly heat a home. This would mean, for me at least, that in the colder months you'd be effectively using an inefficient and costly electric back up system to heat your home.

However in the warmer months, when there is plenty latent heat, you just won't need it and it will be great if pretty useless.

According to the article, they are three or four times more efficient than gas or electric heating systems , one footnote was homes in those countries , much better insulated than the UK, might be rubbish and the article was promoted by the heat pump lobby ,but who knows?

I'm sure they are, when there's latent heat in the air. Maybe less efficient when being backed by electric power?

No idea tbh, only person I know who has a heat pump heating system raves about how good it is and how cheap it is to run , ironically he owns a well known plumbing and gas heating business

Please tell us why you think that the SNP are doing a wonderful job running Scotland because as far as I am concerned they are worse than useless.

Air source heat pumps are more expensive to install than a gas boiler plus the existing gas and oil fired central heating radiators have to be ripped and replaced with new purpose built radiators suitable for air source heat pumps.
Ground heat pumps require the whole of a garden to have pipes installed which would rule out a lot people whose house has a small garden or they live in flat.

The article you enclosed mentioned that Denmark moved towards wood fired district heating systems.
What the article does not mention is that a particular area of Denmark had money thrown at them by the EU about 20 years ago to instal renewable energy schemes including a wood burning district heating scheme.
There was a conference on Islay attended by people from this part of Denmark which from memory was called OVO and Galway in Ireland.
The Danish people admitted that they ran out of wood and had to use wooden fence posts to keep their wood burning district heating scheme in operation.
District heating schemes are nothing knew.
They had a district housing scheme in the Logie housing scheme as far back as the 1920’s heated by the wash house which was still in operation in the 1960’s.
There was also a district heating scheme in the Stirling Park housing scheme which was also heated by a wash house.

Num1adi never once said in this thread that the SNP were doing a wonderful job. Yet again more nonsense spouted by you on this forum.
