We didn't creep into the playoffs, we did smash it, but we didn't smash the playoffs (or the final) did we? Our playing style was negated and but for a couple of remarkable goals we would still be in the NL.
Anyway, not making a point of arguing with you Matt, I just see trouble brewing.

In one of his interviews he did mention that he has no control over recruitment and I'd never heard him say it that bluntly before.

LW is a good manager, a good motivator and appears to be a good bloke all round. He isn't stupid or lacking in vision (I hope) and would have made it known we needed approvements across the back. Why it didn't happen remains a mystery.

I've only heard him say we have specialists at the club for that and he gets on with coaching the team - like the interview with DBG where they joked about not being trusted to go to the supermarket

Lot's of over-reaction on the thread, we lost another game with 10 men to L1 opposition. I agree we could do with getting something on Saturday but all the knee-jerk stuff is silly. At least we lost tonight with a back 4 so that's one area of hysteria that should quiet down a bit.

Have we lost both Baldwin and Bajrami for Saturday? If so, it looks like Brinds-Rawlo-Cameron will have the chance to put things right.

He sounded more down than I've ever heard him. I'm not surprised, against a L1 team or not, tonight was sheite. We seemed to have moved away from everything that bought us success last season. High press, recycling the ball, quick clever passing have all evaporated. We could have easily conceded at least 3 goals through silly errors at the back, where we looked a total shambles in all honesty. We need to turn this around ASAP.

I do see what you're saying, I think there is huge question marks for me regarding whether we continue with 3 at the back and probably more personnel driven than tactically at the moment as for me Brins has just totally lost his confidence and i'm convinced he's never felt comfortable there. Baldwin ability wise for me is more than good enough but he appears injury prone, occasionally hot headed and obviously came back out of shape. I'm not on the bandwagon of hammering Cameron but this is a big step up, he's good on the ball and driving forward but he's going to have to defend more. The makeup of the rest of the team I have absolutely no worries as we have a good mix for talent and experience but we do need to address the defence somehow.

I can only think that we missed out on the top targets, so far. With a limited budget, you get just 1 chance to bring someone in.
If we've avoided bringing in players through desperation after missing out on targets, it means we can still get someone who ticks all (or most) of the boxes.

Certainly no need to panic yet and we have no way of knowing if change is needed until we can keep 11 players on the pitch. Shouldn't drop our heads yet, great team and manager dont become bad overnight- stay the course.

When I saw the team it was obvious we were treating this competition the same as we treated the cup competitions last season - as low priority. It showed, we were very poor again, only Slocombe, JOB and Bostock of the starters emerged with credit. None of the fringe players did anything to push their case. We were slow and ponderous going forward, and always looked likely to gift a goal at the back. We actually caused them more problems in the last 5 minutes playing with ten men than we did with eleven! It was a weakened team so I won't read too much into it, but we need a big improvement for Saturday.
