That was probably Good Friday 1973. Brentford 1 Notts 1 in what for us was a ***** match in the promotion push. I can remember Roy Brown being clattered by one of their forwards a few minutes from time. If memory serves correctly, he was taken off and one of the outfield players went in goal. It might have been Bob Worthington but I’m not sure (definitely not Willie Carlin). The last few minutes were unbelievably tense as Notts held on for a draw.

The remaining three matches were all at home. Brown was out for the season and Eric McManus took over in goal. A draw with Blackburn and wins over S****horpe and Tranmere saw us up on the final day.

Sounds like one of my earliest memories of a game turned out to be quite a game , opening the door to one of Notts greatest ever keepers. First time I had ever heard cockney accents as well, thought I had landed on a different planet!
