Good luck to the Tarn.
I remember that when we beat Brentford in Ronnies first spell to take us to Division 1.
When the result was announced at Oakwell and Bramall Lane, a massive cheer went up.
I've never forgot that!!
Hope it works out well for them.
Why would anyone put money into a club that only sold 6,500 season tickets in the Championship ?
There is no cash to be made in the Football League, the mega money is in the Premiership, courtesy of the obscene amount of money put in by Sky.
What gives you the impression Ron Hull Jnr's nett worth is any more than Tony Stewarts / Richard Stewarts ?
My thoughts are with Patrick Cryne & Family.
£20M for a football club in the Championship is 'cheap as chips'
Good Luck to Barnsley and it's supporters, at least there is financial stability there.
Just tell the new owners to sort that old stand out and you've cracked it.
Just give you some idea £20m will buy a moderate sized flat in a good part of big Asian cities like Hong Kong, Singapore or Shanghai. It is also a small amount compared to the £300m for Newcastle. I expect they reckon they can build the club up to the premiership for less than the investment in Newcastle.
English football is huge in Asia. I would expect some big commercial rights deals going forward. Built on the success on the field it may be a cheap advertising vehicle for some of their own companies that rely on international tourism (like holiday resorts in Vietnam and casinos in Macau).
Nothing to stop anyone selling Oakwell or the surrounding land .
However
According to the deeds it can only ever be used for leisure and it's pretty much set in stone .
So you can't build housing or industrial estates on the site .
Over the coming weeks we will no doubt hear what the new owners have in store for us .
I don't altogether buy in to this stable , little investment championship and happy at that .
I'm fairly certain they feel they can get us to the PL but not in a Wolves or Wendy way , as though we could attract big name signings anyway .
The PL is where it's at , exposure and money , a return on their investment because let's not kid ourselves these are business people not fans .
Billy Been is the obvious clue on how they envisage progress will be achieved .
Whether it works of course is another matter and if it doesn't then how long are they going to remain interested .
In five years time we could be in the PL , we could also quite easily be in league two , either way it's going to be interesting .
