Firstly, condolences to the lad's family and friends. I do however have to agree with the consensus that it can get a bit much. Again no disrespect but agree that every season we should have one game where the club honours fans, employees or others associated with the club during the previous 12 months with a minutes applause before kick off and if people want recognition have a feature in the match day program and on the clubs website maybe?

I'm generally against this sort of thing, a minute's silence for a player/manager with no connection to the club, a Nelson Mandela or up to three weeks before/after remembrance Sunday is ridiculous, but supporters make the club what it is, especially those that turn up week in week out, so I think it's fine for supporters to honour their own without disrupting the proceedings.

I suppose it's up to individual's if they want to join in or not. I do think an annual remembrance match would be a nice gesture though regardless.

If the scoreboard's still buggered, it's going to be difficult to pinpoint the 31st minute for those joining in because quite often games don't kick off until three or four minutes after 3pm.

If it brings an ounce of comfort or happiness to his family or friends then what's the harm?

Totally agree Roweyp.... for a person who has lived through 2 family members with cancer then I do not see the harm, those who want to join in... join in

Wouldn't be the first time that one of these minutes of applause starts and the majority of the crowd have no idea who or what it is for and so don't join in.

That's the problem, most won't know what it's for and just sit there looking confused. What if a goal is scored on 31 minutes? If it's for Notts the applause will be lost, if it's for them the FGR fans will think we're a really sporting crowd!

This for me. Proper announcement at the start of the game so everyone knows what it's for. A lad not much younger than myself dies of cancer and he's a Notts fan, deserves a minute of my applause and respect, least I can do.

Can I just add that I'm not much older and am in and out of hospital with a couple of chronic diseases which will kill me eventually, this lad will have been through some terrible mental hurt, just terrible and his family. Get off your hands and give the lad some applause for the battle he fought and sadly lost with so much ahead of him and his loved ones.
