Thread: Jesse’s Views on Training

  1. #21
He is a trained physio and saiid that their bodies would have adjusted to it - if it was that bad we would have had the same level of injuries the season before.

He made interesting comparisons to the Wilkinson era and how within 6 months players bodies had adjusted.

Look at Kevin Sinfield who ran 7 marathons (all in good times) in 7 days or Davis Walliams who ran 50 with little if any rest between them.

The challenge is that in all modern sport injuries occur as players run faster, are fitter and tackle harder so subjecting bodies to more stress.

It wasn’t the training that caused the issue but the under strength small squad.

Fair to say the American is not the messiah, but its also harsh to say weve been lucky. unbeaten in 4, its not like Bamford is playing each week, hes had Forshaw out too, who has been our best player this season IMO. We were nowhere near 4 unbeaten at any stage this season under Bielsa, and im a Bielsa fan!

Like Marsch and what he has done so far - think he had lifted the mood and the arm around the shoulder seems to have worked with a few players and his tactics seem better suited to Rodrigo. The thing about the training (which was probably not intended as at Bielsa) was not really on the money and missed the point that the risk of a wafer think squad is you can’t cope with injuries to key players.

I also feel a little for Bielsa as no one was going to make us win anything in the run of key games that did for him.

However, that milk has been spilt and onwards and upwards - think we will stay up but this summer will be interesting on the recruitment front.

But we did have the same injuries last season. On top of that season, players had to do it all over again and some hardly had a break.
