Whatever happened to AH's "Squad of 2018"? They've only got a couple of months left to show their prowess.
Feel sorry for Kewell, he'll never get the big earners off the books to give himself a chance in January.
With our sizeable squad the very least we should have is options on the bench.
Kewell is spiting us with this nonsense, which just seems like a game to get Hardy to go big in January. The only attacking change he could make today was a 16 year old, and the fact that he - and Terry Hawkridge- stayed rooted while the entire midfield had a collective off-day (and that’s being kind) suggests Kewell didn’t see them as viable options.
A few off those not involved. Seniors:
Jones - light years better than Evina, who didn’t stop a cross in 90 mins today. Good enough for a team near the top of the table last season. Surely a better option on the bench than ****ager Dunn too?
Hawkridge - we’ve been crying out for a winger who can defend all season to balance out Enzio on the other side. Should be playing ahead of Thomas, who’s been awful since day 1.
Kellett - Another potential attacking option from the bench. Didn’t do a lot wrong early in the season. If HK’s trying to implement a footballing style, doesn’t he fit the bill?
None of those three have played a minute in the league under Kewell.
Husin and Vaughan - supposedly set to benefit from the new manager and a more expansive style of playing, instead we’ve got Brisley in midfield and both look destined to leave. Both Hewitt and Milsom were appaling today and need competition.
Youngsters:
Patching - Came with huge pedigree. Hasn’t been given a shot.
Crawford - Looked good early in the season. Hasn’t made a squad under Kewell.
Osborne - Good option from the bench; brought into the fold by Kewell, now is behind countless defenders in the queue.
Oxlade Chamberlain - One poor game at Exeter, not seen since.
Campbell - Seen as the next big hope in attack. Loaned to Grantham as soon as Stead gets injured and he might make the squad.
Kewell currently has to pick from:-
- The entire back four that finished fifth in this division last season, with a very impressive defensive record.
- An entire back four that he was allowed to sign himself for some reason.
- A winger who cost a reported £300k, and a winger who scored 12 for a relegated team in his last season at this level.
- Another winger who was ever present until January last season, when we were just about top of the league.
- A central midfielder who was virtually ever present in a team that finished fifth in this division last season.
- A central midfielder Kewell has signed twice this season.
- A central midfielder with hundreds of Championship games under his belt.
- Three strikers who scored approx 50 goals between them last season.
- Kellett, Patching, Crawford, Husin, Alessandra, Oxlade-Chamberlain and others who don't fit into any of the categories above.
The idea that there isn't enough there to put together a competent, functioning football team is ridiculous.
On paper it all sounds very good but something is definately not right at the club once the win bonus was scrapped that is when the form started to dip that might just be a coincidence but it seems like we have some wrong uns at the club.
You have to factor in the terrible start 1 point from 18 that Kewell inherited which isn't easy to turn around and we have good knowledge of this as under Trew we were appointing managers it seemed on a month to month basis.
I guess if he loses the next few games and the fans start kicking off Hardy might just do a Trew.
