Curiously you have now reminded me of my old Latin teacher who used to smoke an evil pipe and French master who smoked nasty little cheroots, both during classes. Them were the days. The staff-room (when summoned to it for transgressing some rule or other) positively reeked of smoke which would come out from under the door as if the place was on fire. Then they had the audacity to punish us who emulated them by smoking in the woods.
