Well, I think that both me and Elite would agree, we wouldn't want either McParland or Redknapp as manager - so what was your point then?

You made the crazy suggestion that McParland is the answer to our problems - and suggestd that he'd be ok because he was once a good manager, rather like Redknapp, despite having not managed for a while!

I never said manager. I said as a coach.

Where did I say you mentioned Steve Thompson? If you care to have a look, that reply was to forwardmagpie.

So if his recruitment skills and coaching ability are so good, why does he have such a dismal win ratio and points per game average?

You must have very low standards.
Still, that low standard is better than this seasons tally isn't it? So you would rather have what we have now instead? That ratio would have us on 45 points and I would gladly have that. I would have snatched your hand off for this at the end of August when I mentioned then "I hope we will scrape enough points to stay up"

I haven't worked that one out, but his points per game wouldn't have been enough to get us automatic promotion that season, which is astonishing really.

Overall his managerial stats are poor with a win ratio (as above) of 27.18%. Aside from the stats though, the football was just so desperate during most of his tenure, grindingly dull. A decent coach undoubtedly, but a poor manager.

Of course it is. This season has been an unmitigated disaster from start to (probably) finish. But suggesting we re-employ an abject failure on the basis that he might be better than the current abject failure doesn't make much sense to me.

I would not have Charlie back as a manager, but I would as a coach. That is my point. The coaching at Notts is so inept that it is laughable and that is where the changes need to be made.

His fans keep banging on about how good he was with the Munto team, but the facts tell a different story. His win ratio in that season was indeed 50%, but his loss ratio was 25%. That doesn't sound bad on the face of it, but it showed that a squad of such ability was definitely underperforming with McParland in charge. Here is the proof:

Munto team under McParland - win ratio 50%, defeat ratio 25%, points per game average 1.75

Munto team under the other managers - win ratio 61.8%, defeat ratio 11.8%, points per game average 2.06

As cher says, McParlands performance over the season would have seen us make the playoffs. Once we got rid of him, that squad won the title by 10 clear points. Is that factual enough for you forward and MiG? Surely even you two can see that.

I went to a pre season game under Thompson at Hucknall. I stood near the dugout, one of our young players turned his fullback and tried a one two that didn’t come off. Thompson laid into him yelling and swearing telling not to try and play football but to knock the f*****g ball down the wing into the channel. He didn’t stop ranting at him for several minutes. The lad looked destroyed. I came away thinking if that is how Thompson wanted to play football it wasn’t for me. Ian wanted to play passing football but with the players he had it was far from a success and the football at times was dire. When he assembled his own team with great signing (all obviously Munto superstars) like Bishop, Ravenhill, Davies, Hughes, Lee, Rodgers, Westcarr and Schmeichel he started the season well. His win/draw ration if continued would had had us in an automatic spot at the end of the season.

Yes abject failure we should have kept Thompson. (How has he done since leaving us)?
