Maybe IB's seeming reluctance to use the long/more direct ball, was caused by a lack of pace up front. For all their other attributes, you wouldn't have pace in there with any of Wootton, Roberts or Rodrigues. Sam had pace but couldn't hold down a regular spot. Langstaff has genuine pace and from highlights I have seen, Scott looks quick enough too, so that may well make the more direct option of beating the press possible.

His reluctance changed towards the back end of the season. We DID play balls over the top. Quite a lot!

The problem being, he never really picked anyone with real pace to make it work

Burchinall seemed to think we had the talent to pass the ball accurately through an energetic mob of eager attackers, we didn’t.
Don’t ask me how many goals were conceded by us poncing around at the back but it was certainly a depressing and a somewhat embarrassing sight seeing our clueless and immobile manager stood standing there watching a tactic that never scored us a goal.
I'm asking you, how many did we directly concede from the passing the ball out from the back?

I can think of at least two, Torquay and Halifax, both at home.

I think our form over the last 10 games was only bettered by Solihull, so what didn’t work?

Halifax was a keeper error from memory. Nothing to do with overplaying.
The only goal I saw this season that was gifted from us losing possession at the back, was Francis playing it back to the keeper and under hitting the pass.

It's gonna be hard for anyone to remember many more than the one or two suggested because there just weren't many. Perhaps no more than other clubs?

It was a bit of myth tbh but it told a nice story.

True, there wasn't many, but there was quite a few occasions when we hurriedly passed back to the keeper whilst under pressure, causing him to make a last ditch clearance.

And that's absolutely fine, I'm totally fine with last ditch clearances. It's when we concede goals that I'm not happy
