Like many in my age group, I cut my teeth on the clubbing scene at the Mojo Club back in 66/67. It’s amazing what he achieved in his life and I suspect he enjoyed just about every minute.

No BD, it was on Pitsmoor Road. The Esquire was on Leadmill Road.

What H says BD. Going back to the Mojo, there’d not been anything quite like it at the time but by 67, we started to get the more upmarket nightclubs the first being the Cavendish Club on Bank Street. The doormen would check that you matched the dress code and that your hair wasn’t too long in the early days but that all ended when the competition arrived.

We used to go for a few pints in the Black Swan (Mucky Duck) where there were often decent local groups on, and then on into the Cavendish about 10pm and on into the disco. I’d we didn’t pull we’d end up in the casino by 2am. Early evening by today’s standards, but before then, the only place you could could go after the pubs closed in Sheffield was the bowling alley on Queens Road (Pre Heartbeat).

I probably sound a bit older than I am from this, but I used to hang out with a group of lads I worked with at Firth Browns who were a fair bit older than me at the time. I actually got Cavendish membership when I was just 17 but I never told mi Mum

Great post this, Really love the nostalgia around the old Sheffield night life and where the Blades players used to go etc before the days of special diets and also before the advent of Social Media which has not been that great as it has curtailed the actions (rightly or wrongly) of many and the characters of yesteryear are fast disappearing.

My old Dad used to talk about the Mojo and the Cavendish but I am from the time of the Mucky Duck being the Compleat Angler and the Cavendish being Baileys then Cairo Jax.

I frequented the Craizy Daisy regularly but the place to be seen was undoubtedly Josephine's and Mona Lisas which had a very strict dress code where I remember even Blades and Owls players getting refused entry for trivial stuff like having an Earring in or not having a Jacket.

Back then the Blades players and Owls players knocked about together and they were always in Henrys bar before they went into Josephines, The players I remember were Gary Shelton, David Hirst from the Pigs and John Francis, Carl Bradders and Mitch Ward from the Blades, There were also appearances from Sterland, Deano and Agana, as well as Dane Whitehouse and Toddy.

Great days when the players appreciated the fans, a bit like Wilders philosophy to be honest.

Me too mate. Wasn’t the Cavendish Romeo and Juliet’s before it became Cairo’s?

Wasn't it also called Baileys at one point?
