When you get that one golden chance , you have to be brave , be aggressive, don't have any regrets . I said at work beforehand that Strachan would not have the balls to play this game like the ultimate cup tie . Instead , we try to sit in , play tactically and it doesn't work . As for the selection , he was always going to go for the limited old ( tired) guard in midfield. McGinn and McGregor are form players and straining at the leash but we're probably too adventurous for him. Again, we get our hopes up only to be beaten down with a sledgehammer come the ***** moment.

There is no doubt that Strachan is too loyal to the older brigade. Perhaps the occasion may have just been too big to start with the younger more athletic players but surely when it became obvious that the old timers were waning then that should have been the time to unleash the fresh youthful guys and had a real go to get that qualification spot. Time for some fresh new guy in charge who does possess the balls to make wholesale changes before we start the next campaign.

With FIFTY - FIVE countries competing in the qualification rounds of Euro 2020 surely Scotland can make the 24 who make up the finals but going on the performances of the last 20 years who can tell !

The Scotland roller coaster ride ended in the same way as previous tournaments with us missing out which is always disappointing but there's always the next major tournament to try qualify for.
