Still will never understand how we got him from Rochdale for 100k. There must have been other suitors...When you watched him you knew you were in the presence of a true talent.

Wasn't he being kept out of their team by Dagnall? Probably near the end of his contract and wanted a move to get regular first team football, preferably to a nearby club. Great signing!

The very first goal on there, a penalty, was against Grimsby if memory serves. I was there for that one, remember thinking at the time we'd signed a real gem

If we only had a forward half as good as this guy !

When we signed ALF Rochdale were having cash flow problems.
Previously they had sold Glen Murray and David Perkins, Keith Hill didn't want to sell ALF. I'm almost certain Rochdale were down as favourites for that coming season.
The deal was agreed with Dale however ALF originally couldn't agree personal terms. Mark Robins had to get him back round the negotiating table and eventually he signed a 3yr deal.

The Millers and Reading saw the best of ALF.

To this day I still do not understand why we didn't get £2,000,000 for him.

Really. Surely you must have noticed the ineptitude of our negotiators by now 😊
