this was the first leeds united season of my existence. Eddie Gray was manager, and his squad was
Aspin Baird Day Dickinson Gray Hamson Harvey Irwin Linighan Lorimer McCluskey Ritchie Sellars Sheridan and Wright
there was a handful of others who played less than 10 games each that season but those listed all played at least 10 games that season
what's fans thoughts on that squad at that time, the management, ownership, the whole shabang!

Clive - very different times and different era. the ground was decrepit, there was a lot more violence, the team had the expectations of the Revie era, no one at the club had much money for anything, Leeds itself and the city centre was pretty shabby but
there were a couple of players in that squad that I loved watching; Scott Sellars and John Sheridan. Sheridan had a cockiness with the ball and seemed to love playing for Leeds as much as we loved supporting them.

it was far better than today, even though we were in the second division at the time.
the atmostphere was far more intimidating , it was cheaper home and away, the fans who went then were hardcore fanatics. not like the pussies who turn up today .
away games were a free for all , 8,9,10,000 fans going away was a regular occurence, not the all ticket malarchy and the grannies outings of the supporters clubs of today.
it was a game for the working classes, far more fun and adventure was to be had then , than you will ever get nowadays in todays game.

Tommy Wright sticks in my mind for that season - didn't miss many chances .......
Not sure what happened to him as he got busted as Barnsley coach for taking a £5k cash transfer bung.
ER gates where shockers to,not many reached 20,000 and some dire away days trouble wise too at Oldham,Man City,Wolves,Grimsby & Pompey.Covered a fair few miles that season from Pompey to Carlisle ........
What was your mode of transport Marley back in those days then Marley - coach,trains or automobile.

it depended where we were playing mrs o, london , midlands, south was usually the service train , either friday night or early saturday morning , the local trips huddersfield, manchester , sheffield we got the football special trains , they were like summat you would see in the film gandhi , absolutely rammed in like sardines and hanging out of the windows and doors most. of the time.

most women who went to games in them days, mrs o, were either in the local constabulary or st johns ambulance. lol
there was more action going on off the pitch, than there was ever happening on it. lol

Ahh yes good old Tommy Wright, he got caught with his fingers in the till while he was Hecky's asst coach at Burnsley.
(and it could be argued we've slowly got worse since he went!)
As for season 84-85, thats when footy was still a fans game, nobody had heard of Sky telly then had they.
