Crystal Palace v Burnley Match Preview

There is a tide in the affairs of men, which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Burnley have seized that moment with alacrity, grabbing back to back wins against Brighton and Spurs, to give themselves a genuine chance of escaping relegation. Newcastle, Everton, Leeds and Brentford are now all within touching distance. Next up for the Clarets is a trip to Selhurst Park to take on Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace who come into this fixture having routed former boss Roy Hodgson’s Watford 4-1 at Vicarage Road.

When Burnley and Palace met at Turf Moor in November a pulsating see-saw 3-3 draw resulted. Both sides have racked up eleven league draws in the current campaign and another share of the spoils may well be on the cards on Saturday. Burnley triumphed over Spurs at a rain swept Turf Moor missing Charlie Taylor, Ashley Westwood and Maxwel Cornet. It remains to be seen whether any of this trio will come back into contention to face Crystal Palace. What is clear however is that the arrival of Wout Weghorst has somehow galvanised the club and whoever is pulling on the shirt has contributed to the resurgence in the club’s fortunes on the pitch in recent weeks. The tight Burnley defence which has only conceded 2 goals in the last six league matches will doubtless be key to Burnley’s cause over the remainder of the season. Connor Roberts and Nathan Collins when called upon have seamlessly slotted into the back line protecting Nick Pope in the Burnley goal.

For Palace the victory at Watford represented their first league win since beating Norwich 3-0 at home on 28 December. Christian Benteke who scored two of the Palace goals at Turf Moor is likely only to be on the bench as Vieira shapes a younger Eagles side with the attack set to figure Olise, Mateta and Zaha. The hugely talented Conor Gallagher will provide both link up play and a potent goal threat from midfield and Palace can ring the changes up front with Odsonne Édouard.

The match referee is Jonathan Moss with Andre Marriner on VAR. Sunny intervals and a moderate breeze are forecast for this corner of South-East London. Bring it on. COYC!

With Everton and Watford playing the two Manchester clubs and Newcastle and Brentford playing each other, a win at Palace could really put the cat amongst the pigeons this weekend.
Intriguing match - Palace are tricky and mobile going forward - I like Olise in particular - but they'll be up against one of the best defences in the league.
If you perform like you did last night I reckon you'll nick it - anything less and you'll struggle. This will come down to your performance on the day IMO.

We have one of the best defences in the EPL, if we can keep the Chelsea kid quiet, we should get a result.

By no means BT! This is IMHO one of the most intelligent message boards around. It is especially a pleasure to be writing match previews at present as our beloved Clarets are on the up and up. A Clarets win at Selhurst Park would really put the wind up some big name clubs with their big money and big attitudes at the bottom end of the table.

We are currently averaging 1.5 points per game since the Arsenal game. If we can carry that on outwood, you will previewing our EPL fixtures for the Clarets next season too. God willing!

I’m confident we can get a result of some sort tomorrow, which will keep the momentum going.
Palace must be a bit wary of us , you would have thought, especially with the way we’ve been playing just lately.WW has definitely added some unknown factor to the side , and another good performance from him will help our cause by 5pm tomorrow evening.

Love your optimism malwayne: optimism reflects the belief that the outcomes of events or experiences will generally be positive, we certainly need optimism by the bucket loads supporting the Clarets.

Zaha if kept quiet usually loses his cool and easy to wind up which on occasion leads to a red card, manage the Chelsea kid too and I feel at least a point will be achieved, if we show the same grit and determination as on Weds all 3 points are there for the taking.
