Yeah and if we sat in so deep against the cheeks, there would be mayhem in here.
Iceland played with 10 players in their own box limiting space and making it easier for the defenders.
Should we set up the same way on August 5th?

Suppose Derek likes to play an expansive free flowing football against them.

    Missing the point a tad.
Should we have kept Arnasun and played deep so he didn’t get exposed?

Yes if we were to play a team with Messi in it. I hardly think Arnason was the reason Iceland defended so deep.

    Again, you’re missing the point.
The discussion was how he did well in today’s game (against Messi and co) and I pointed out that it suited him, because he doesn’t have the legs for it and could sit in.
That would not be accepted by Aberdeen by many in here.

Probably not but we shouldn’t have left him so exposed in the semi final.

He rightly takes a lot of grief for that game but he has been made a scapegoat to let others off.

As Michael Stewart pointed out after the game for the 3rd goal O’Connor lost the ball on the wing and left him one on one with the striker.Obviously he should have done better but even a 34 year old Willie Miller would have struggled if he was left in that situation. The only difference being Willie Miller would have rung O’Conners neck for doing so.

I wouldn’t refer only to the semi final game.

I wouldn’t refer only to the semi final game in regards to O’Connor either.

The both of them weren’t good enough for us last season but at the end of the day one of them is playing at the World Cup and the other one just signed for Bradford City.

O’Connor had as much poor performances as Arnason did if not more but didn’t seem to get dropped when he did.

That wasn’t because he was a better player it was because McInnes liked him more.
