Spain ceded Gibraltar to Britain in perpetuity. Gibraltarians invoke the right to self determination and therefore we have the impasse that Britain cannot cede Gibraltar back to Spain and Spain has no title to reclaim the territory. Let things lie. Does Spain really need Gibraltar? If they do they are going to need to persuade all of those living on the Rock that their future is part of Spain. At the moment they are not even convincing Catalunya.

In the Brexit vote 96% of Gibraltarians (?) voted to remain.

Brexit will hit them very hard once we leave.

Certainly Spain will be offering them a decent deal to become Spanish.

I'm surprised it wasn't 100% to remain, once we're out of the EU life will become even more difficult for them, and they'll have to depend on our government to protect them from Spanish aggression and disruption to their daily life. Not an enticing prospect, if I was a Gibraltarian I'd have voted remain as well. Nevertheless they'll never agree to any enticement from Spain whatever the circumstances, Brexit or not, they hate the Spanish with a will, the only way Spain will rule them is by force.
