    England U19 Euro winners

Beat Portugal 2-1 in the final.

Such a shame that these young talented players will always play second fiddle to expensive foreign "quick fix" imports.
We will probably see these young stars slowly fade into lower division obscurity such is the perverse win at all costs state of today's football.

Let's be honest, we've never got it right at international level, it's always been about face, trend, location. It still grieves me that Kenny Hibbitt was never a full time international in his prime,72-80. The reason being there were better midfielders available.
Course there was, that's why we failed to qualify for two world cups in that space of time.
The reason I moan about location is because why did John Richards only play one (out of position) game for England and if I'm brutally honest, Cyrille Regis and Laurie Cunningham totally underplayed. Anyway, going off on a tangent...

Back on subject, who is the U19 manager?

Oh a certain Keith Downing is the manager, a good achievement, England below the senior squad level are slowly making an impact.

King John was up against..........Martin Chivers, Allan Clarke,Kevin Keegan, Malcolm Macdonald,Joe Royle ,Mike Summerbee to name but a few. the fact he is still revered by us and those mentioned, his peers, speaks volumes!!

Both doing well with the England youngster's, it's a pity as already stated in the thread that many of the youngster's won't get a chance in the elite league and will no doubt fall down the league's to get games.

    It's a travesty.

Our youth coaches are obviously top drawer and you don't achieve this level of success unless you have something a bit special in the squads.

Then you see average players like Kyle Walker touted as Europe's most expensive defender and it suddenly dawns on you that this is a ridiculous, obscene business that we have to call sport.
