    Big Dave

Got off to a good start as caretaker manager. If he picks up points from now until the end of the season there will be a clamour for him to get the job next season.

From the outside looking in, it looks like a much happier camp since he has taken over. Winning games always helps of course...

I like the way he has spoken to the media and his calls for unity. I wouldn't be averse at all to him getting the job permanently next year.

However, I would really dislike to see a club legend who has always given 100% to us getting stick when the times do get hard under him, which it will at some point.

    What's everyone's thoughts..?

James McLean said BBC teletext that he's someone you want to play for, which pis sed me right off as the players should play for the fans at all times and also because the club was again being tight with what they wanted to Pay pardew to foook him off.

It's a hard choice, if Big Dave does well until the end of season then I don't see the harm giving him half a season to see if he can continue that.

But, I have a feeling the technical director will have someone lined up.

You cant help but love Big Dave. Honest as the day is long. We need to bounce straight back up so do we want a rookie manager? I don't. I do think though that Big Dave could have a successful future in management. Just a feeling.

Well first off I'd like to thank Big Dave and the players for the wonderful commitment and spirited performance on Sunday. Such a pity we haven't seen more of both throughout the season though, and I maintain that despite it's obvious deficiencies this squad was more than capable of staying up. Now we're only two games into a care takership so it's important not to go overboard with praise, but the last two performances have been like a breath of fresh air when compared to some of the stultifying sh ite that's been endured.

And I don't feel as though I'm going overboard by suggesting we could do far worse than give the big man the role for next season. Let's face it, we already DID far worse with the ludicrous appointment of Kid Chocolate (Buttons). The ineptitude of which was only surpassed by keeping him on for as long as we did. Wrong manager for the wrong squad, a self inflicted double whammy. We have a period to draw breath and take stock, but whatever happens I feel it's imperative Darren Moore is retained and I believe he will be kept on as a second in command. He knows the club and the players clearly respect him, good starting points.

My concern in the short term is the role of Giuliano Terraneo. While refreshing to have a replacement lined up for Hammond (short term at least) I don't quite get the logic. He's had a very broken career path, look at the gaps and you'll see what I mean. His remit is to appoint a new Director of Football (DoF) and overhaul scouting and recruitment, but surely the latter should be the job of the former? Not sure whether he's recruiting the next boss/head coach as well, but if so I feel that too should be the job of the new DoF as they'll be the ones working together.

Don't know why but I've got a very uneasy feeling about Giuliano Terraneo and what he brings to the table. Just as I did with the appointments of Terry (fkwt) Burton and David (reputed ego on a stick) McDonough. Whatever happens we're in for an interesting few months.

I think GT has been brought in so that there is somewhere there to oversee the football side whilst Jenkins gets the P45's ready for the staff who will be fired for this seasons failures.

After all the departures there is an obvious need for someone to come in to assist MJ, whether a journeyman like GT is the answer time will tell.

I also think MJ wanted a fresh pair of eyes to look at the situation in an impartial way and who can give an honest evaluation of the whole playing side of the club.

I don't think GT be alone in appointing the next manager, but he'll have a say I would have thought.

If Big Dave has ambitions to manage and doesn't get the chance with us he should go out and prove himself and earn the job in the long term.

Although I can see the benefits of keeping him, as Albionic says, sometimes a new manager brings a whole backroom staff with him and doesn't want any of the old guard, like fat sham.

I think we had a problem with getting a manager once because he wanted to bring his whole entourage, I cannot recall the name.

Mel, the next big thing according to that p rick you mentioned McDonough who somehow managed to become kingmaker, but then we only survived after that great goal from Amalfantano at Norwich imo.

I'll never forgive the idiotic mel for playing Lugano over Gmac against the vile when we lead 2 nil and lost 3-4.

When Pepe Mel lost the plot, it was Dean Kiely and Keith Downing who stepped up , changed a few things and kept us up.

Pepe Mel should never have been appointed like Pardew the players didn't like his tactics so refused to carry them out and very much like big Dave we went back basics and got enough results to stay up, my big worry about the new guy is he will be forced by the Chinese to appoint a big name manager who won't be suited to our current position.

Totally agree with your sentiments but i would be surprised if we go for another unproven coach.
