Although Kavanagh explains his reasons for starting with Thirlwell in the back four and leaving Meppen-Walters on the bench I think we should be starting with our strongest team against fellow relegation rivals. We would have been much more balanced than we were and although Berrett tried hard in the holding role he struggled. When Ehmer went down injured for a time Potts was already stripping off but Kavanagh made a different substitution up front when I thought he could have given it a few more minutes to see how Ehmer coped ( seemingly a dislocated shoulder that popped back in ) and he did struggle, unsurprisingly, for the rest of the game.

Mr Kavanagh has seen it all before. He must be really frustrated and having been part of the last regime that could not get up the head of steam.

I honestly don't think he can do anything about the consistency scenario and it will just carry on or it would have been sorted by now.

Frankly, if he doesn't know why the players aren't performing then he's admitting he doesn't know what he's doing.

If that's really the case he should step aside and let someone who can see where things are wrong take over the job. He's paid to ensure the players at his disposal perform, if he does not know how to do this he should have the honesty to resign with immediate effect.

Maybe instead of blaming the players, he should look closer to home and admit that his tactics and team selection for the game were highly dubious. Perhaps the reason we started so slowly was due to the way Kavanagh himself set the team up.

If you're a player listening to this guff from your manager it's hardly going to motivate you to perform. As a manager you should be taking responsibility yourself instead of blaming everybody else. Very poor.

If you think about it though, our old management team was Abbott/Kavanagh/Irons.

    Now it is Kavanagh/Irons.

Absolutely no new input which is what we needed in the first place.

We need to be at least drawing with teams like Crewe.

we had a nice cushion before Xmass but having got only 3 points from a possible 12 over that period we are now dangerously close to the drop zone, 3 points off infact.
if we lose the next league game and others below us win we could potentialy drop from 15th to 20 th.
so realistically we ARE still in a relegation battle.
