Just reading this latest book about the forming of DCFC back in 1884 and its a fascinating and great read.
One thing that has always grated me, is that Derby County don't really have a pub song/anthem that is rebound around the football world as 'Derby County's song'. Yes I know we have 'Steve Bloomers watching' , but that's only really known and understood by rams fans, also it's quite modern.
Anyway, reading the book, there is an account of the clubs first end of season annual dinner, where the players sang their 'own' adopted song for the club, an old hymn 'One more river to cross'. I've looked up the lyrics on the tinternet and I think the words and tune have all the makings of a cracking club anthem to be belted out from the stands as a rallying call in supporting the club. Yes, probably a few lyrics might need to be changed slightly to make it football and more personal to DCFC, especially if the 'river' to be beached is the River Trent.
