Buying land and title in Scotland

Brother-in-law was bragging over the Christmas how he'd been bought a piece of land in Glencoe as a present and that he's now legally entitled to be addressed as the Laird of Glencoe. Said it wasn't expensive at all - thought it was about 20 quid.

Anybody else heard of this kind of thing? And is he right about the whole Laird thing?

Your brother in law sounds more like a baird than a Laird.

Yea its right. But there are two types of lord/laird - your Bro in law's got the pyshy one and I dont think you can out it on your passport etc.

5 posts in and nobody's mentioned Sevco buying titles.

I'm shocked. Or maybe I missed it.

    Edit: I'm Lord Ofthedance.

That hadn't even occured to me. It was a genuine question as the guy goes on about it. If it's kosher, as seems to be the case, then I can't dispute it with him. That being the case if it's not too expensive I might do similar and take the wind from his sails.

    All seems a bit pointless.
