We passed teams off the park better than the Ancell babes in the mid 1990s. We came through the business problems of 10 years ago and have made two finals. Charlie Aitken was a wonderful - and clean! - player; the lack of recognition at international level was scandalous. His heading ability was legendary. Another poster mentioned St.Mirren. We lost 3-2 to them in the cup at Love Street - I'm sure it was 1959, when they eventually won the trophy - and I still have a mental picture, followed by a sinking feeling, when Willie McSeveney's header hit the bar near the end.
I still have a soft spot for Bobby Roberts, our left half after Bert McCann. Great engine, ferocious shot and not prone to taking prisoners. He went to Leicester City, I think?
