    Webb advice doesn't make sense

Lot of respect for Howard and he could be correct in saying an appeal for the sending off would be turned down but his reasoning doesn't make sense.

Claude got a 3 match ban for violent conduct and Webb says Claude should have walked away which he should have.

Now video evidence confirms no violent conduct and Claude's crime was indeed not walking away.

How then could his 3 match ban red card be upheld for not walking away?

The club have made a mistake and should have appealed as this is the only way to improve things.

Evans was very outspoken and should have had the courage of his convictions.

    Spot on Kempo.

The decision was a disgrace. Every game should be reviewed by officials with retrospective punishments handed out to players caught cheating.

Diving and feigning injury should be punished with 10 game bans. It would soon put a stop to it.

Refs do tend to watch out for each other and would have to have a heart of stone to go against each other :/

I don't care what they say it should have been looked into because it was cheating.

FA should be looking at things like this anyway even if not reported, it's in the Refs book ( must be down as violent conduct) and they know it happened to hand a 3. Match ban, then even if they can't overturn the red then at least fine Pope for cheating

Webby is a local hero so dare Steve Evans go against his 'sound' advice?

Have to say Howard's not had the greatest games over the Xmas period
(Chelsea game which should have been a straight red in the first 5 minutes and the obvious to all penalty at Old Trafford) and came in for some heavy criticism from several experienced pundits about his performance...sound advice?

Like miller top says'Refs do tend to watch out for each other and would have to have a heart of stone to go against each other' for Webby to slate the ref at Port vale wouldn't have gone down well at all...the ref's panel are worst than the freemasons when it comes to brotherhood!

Howard Webb hasn't given his opinion on the whole incident but he has advised us the most painless way forward as a club.

Tom Pope drew a reaction out of Claude Davis and the mistake he made was taking the bait and biting in front of the referee. A player (irrespective the player is low life Tom Pope) is on the floor and the referee gives a free kick against us. At that point Claude should walk away and if he's very unlucky it's a yellow card at worse. Instead he kicks the ball away which is a yellow card itself but the ball is under Tom Pope who rolls about. It would have been a bad mistake 10 years ago (look at Beckham sticking his foot out in the 98 World Cup and getting a red. He didn't hurt the Argie but it was the intent) let alone now with cameras everywhere including in Lge 1.

I hope we can learn and move forward as a club from this. We are lucky to have Howard Webb advice and support as a fan.

I'm far from clear crackers as to why the appeal committee would uphold the 3 match ban.

What reasons would they give?...the ban stands because Claude didn't walk away and he toe poked the ball?

There is little point moaning about decisions unless we are prepared to stand up for our principles and have our strongly expressed views tested...if we are not prepared to do that then it is best to keep quiet.

If he appealed and lost what was the punishment..one extra game ban?

Instead let's just take it on the chin...let's let other players make mugs out of us we've got plenty of C/B cover...hold that statement what am I saying...Morgan's banned and now Mills as gone to Bury...and Arnie looks well off the pace...yeh great move indeed!
