There is no doubt that this presence at Goalkeeper and/or central defence plus midfield 'engine room' is paramount to any well drilled squad.
It is the engine room 'void' that has been our demise over the last 2+ seasons that has been at the core of our decline IMHO :/

Despair, you are absolutely spot on, imo his experience controling the defence is a big plus.

He has just returned after 12months out, so will need first team games to get his form back on track, I think at 34 he still has a lot to offer our young squad.

Young players need Legends behind them and who better than Robbo with over 40 international caps.

I felt once he sorted his kicking out we were very comfortable with him in the sticks and our back four very strong it is paramount we have a commanding figure like him if we are to mount a play off push don't get me wrong he isn't a great keeper but until the young ones mature he's the best we have.

Even after such a long lay off and still carrying a bit of timber , which he will quickly shed . He was head and shoulders above the other two options . For me he should be automatic 1st choice !

    Pat spot on

One great save from Silva yesterday and his experience helping a young defence along with Dann could be very useful for second half of the season. Even more so if Dann is sold and O'Connell comes back from Rochdale.

Kean and Eastwood have a lot to learn yet from what I've seen.

Yes he needs to get fitter but that will come with time.

Can't agree with the 1st part of your post needs, Robbo has been carrying "excess timber" for a few years now and I think he's probably as fit as he's ever gonna be for a bloke his age having said that if he carries on pulling off saves like he did from Silva yesterday then he'll be plenty fit enough and certainly as you say 1st choice
