Charlton started off the first half lacking in any intent or sense of purpose, unsure of where or who to pass to and were unbelievably sluggish whereas Oxford were bright, sharp, pressed and fully deserved their 2 goal lead at half time.

Chris Powell described the first half as the worst peformance he has seen from Charlton since becoming manager and managed to get them to buck their ideas up after half time.

Observing from the Upper West stand, the state of the pitch was plain to see, rain soaked mud and resembling a bog but the conditions were the same for both teams. The ball hardly bounced and led to long balls from both sides.

Oxford, however, seized possession after numerous mistakes from the Home side and John Mullins opened the scoring on 13 minutes. On 24 minutes Scott Davies scored a 2nd goal and the Addicks were booed off at half time. I think there was only 1 Addicks shot on target that first half.
