RIP Bert. Sadly, I never met you, but I get the impression that you were as remarkable in life as you were in your Wolves career.

Mention Wolves and Billy Wright, Bert Williams and Peter Broadbent are probably the first threes to spring to mind.

Thanks for all your contributions to our club history, winning the FA Cup against Leicester, the first League Championship, the England caps and the floodlit victories which paved the way for the European Cup.

Your input to the community has been immense and very much appreciated, even by people like me who live a fair way away from Wolverhampton.

With Dave Wagstaffe, Barry Stobart and Peter Broadbent all departing this season, you will be in good company and, like them, you will never be forgotten!

Last time in Wolvo (about 2.5 years ago) my wife and I stayed at The Mount and I borrowed some books on Wolves from the Tettenhall Library. In every book Bert Williams' stood out, perhaps I noticed it more as a former hockey goalie, but he came across in every case as a class act and a true Gentleman!

    Rest in Peace, Bert!

Sadly, we've lost another Wolves (and England) legend who, IMO, can be numbered amongst the few truly great English 'keepers of all time .

On one solitary occasion, at White Hart Lane back in the early 50's, I had the pleasure of seeing Bert play. As a player he rarely gave a bad performance and that day was no different, however, he couldn't quite stop Alf Ramsey scoring from a penalty. I never forgave Ramsey for that (not even in 1966).

What a person to look up to when a nipper, just had to have a green jersey like his but not easy to get after the war.Watched in awe many, many matches he played in and I could never understand how Gill Merrick of Birmingham sometimes kept him out of the England team.Rekon he will be in the SAINTS team,no problem. Thanks Bert for some super memories.
