Daft Double Whammy Rule

The daftest rule in football contrived to make it an ultra disappointing result today.

This was a game we wanted to win but couldn't afford to lose and as has happened quite a lot this season we were masters of our own downfall.

I dont have an issue with the penalty being awarded but the mandatory red card is a crazy rule especially for goal keepers who by the nature of their role very often have to dive in last ditch circumstances.

The reality is that if a goalie commits a foul in the penalty box of any nature the balance of probability is that it will be a massive game changer ...i.e penalty and playing with ten men. Keppers simply cannot afford to take any material risk and it would be better to concede the goal and protect your 11 man complement.The outcome that materialised here was the worst possible outcome.

Thought Dundee were poor and we did well with 10 men...had 3 decent second half chances and were well worth a point.

It is a daft rule as a pen should be enough but Young Jim will learn from today.
Better just to let the guy score and keep 11 players on the park.

The penalty was harsh, the sending off was completely insane!

There were worse infringements in midfield yesterday that didn't even merit a foul! eg Mark Kerr had a two footed challenge and wasn't even spoken to!

The authorities must change the rule to "just a penalty" rather than a pen plus an automatic red card, as it makes a mockery of the sport and as has been mentioned above means that keepers shouldn't bother making a challenge!

Russell has still not learned to keep his mouth shut. Does he have a self destruct button?

Got to say that I hate this "double whammy" ruling and not just because we suffered from it . The case in point was last nights Champs League game involving Arsenal and Bayern Munich. As you know , the Arsenal keeper clumsily took down a forward by being a second too late and with that, the course of a fascinating , close game was changed instantly. In my opinion ,there has too be a less harsh punishment handed out Yes, a penalty but what about a sin bin for keeper along with it instead of having to play defensive for the rest of the game. Millions watching on tv and most of the 60,000 crowd must have been gutted that one mistimed challenge more or less destroyed Arsenal's chances of progress. Most of the new ( newish) football rules like the goalkeeper back pass rule have enhanced the game but not this one .

Wholeheartedly agree with JR.

A penalty is one thing, but sending the keeper of automatically is something altogether different.

If that collision had occurred in midfield the referee would probably have given a foul but possibly even waved play on. He certainly wouldn't have reached for a yellow card, never mind a red!

Common sense must come into the game! Was the attacker rugby tackled to the ground? No the players simply collided and the Dundee lad dived as though he'd been shot! Seconds later he happily gave the two handed salute to a fellow player, knowing that his antics had probably won the match for Dundee.

If that is the way football is going then I'm afraid I don't want to be a part of it.
