Hampden being used for Commonwealth Games

It'd never ever happen obviously, but I'd love it to be kept in its current altered state and used permanently as a track and field venue. Glasgow absolutely doesnt need 3(Three!) 50K plus fitba stadiums in the 21st century...and this would hopefully help athletics to grow and prosper in Scotland.

Meanwhile the majority of Scotland games and also national cup finals could be played at Ibrox or Celtic Park (two infinitely better football stadiums in terms of atmosphere generated, spectacle etc etc) with far more of an option to take some internationals round the country to Aberdeen or Edinburgh and so on.

Nu-Hampden's a very poorly designed White Elephant of a stadium that we're doomed to be lumbered with for at least the next 50 years or so - it should've been retired gracefully in the 80's rather than redeveloped, imo. Apparently the late Jim Farry is to thank for pushing the development through instead of common sense prevailing. Cheers Jum, nice one. - [url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/n

I think he was too kind to Jim Farry.

To be fair, Hampden has a lot of history associated with it and the Museum there is well worth a visit. Can't see either CP or I hosting a permanent museum to Scottish Football.

If Hampden was left go fallow wouldn't the famous Queens Park soon go out of business too? Think that would be a retrograde step.

Such a pity that Old Hampden wasn't improved instead of the soul-less place it's been made by the self-serving suits

You've just contradicted yourself. It's a soulless dump and should be bulldozed or used for athletics. And the museum could be moved.

Where on Earth has Mr Plugg been?

Sorely missed & agreed on the Hampden points.

When you look at Cardiff, Wembley, Murrayfield & even the Aviva, they made a right @rse of Hampden...

Hampden is a shocker and Murrayfield isn't much better these days.

If the French, Irish and Welsh can get the two sports together and deliver a world class stadium, then why couldn't we?

This is all just fantasy world bollox obv, but if there was still a functional stadium called Hampden there, it would remain a massive part Scottish football history and would be the natural place for a museum (and, uh, there's one there anyway!) - no matter what sports it now hosted.

As for Queen's Park, I'm afraid when Regan's binned and I'm appointed new SFA Chief Executive (shoe-in), then they're just gonna have to suck it up and play at Lesser Hampden permanently. Sorry lads.
