As part of the wider process of strengthening Southamptons leadership team, the Club can also announce the appointment of Hans Hofstetter and Gareth Rogers to the Holding Company Board of Directors.

Hans Hofstetter is an internationally connected business lawyer. His deep professional experience in corporate governance will be an invaluable asset to Southampton Football Club.

Gareth Rogers is currently the Clubs Interim Chief Executive Officer who will also remain an Executive Director of the Football Clubs Board, alongside Les Reed.

You get nothing for free in this sport, because if you are doing things with shortcuts and you're looking for an easy street in major league sports, that tree will fall over. Those roots are unhealthy. So we want to build strong roots, we want to build a strong foundation and then, within that, we will do everything possible to retain the players as long as possible.

And he says he is keen to re-visit the idea of playing Premier League games abroad, citing the successful example of the NFL bringing matches to Wembley.
