Free Agent Barry To Cost Everton 2.5 Million?

According to claims made in tomorrow's Sunday People, it will cost Everton 2.5m to sign Gareth Barry this summer because of a backdated-fee clause written into the original loan agreement.

Barry's Manchester City contract is up at the end of next month and he will be free to sign for any suitors, with the exception of Everton, it seems.

Assuming the report is true, it is not clear whether the clause represents the transfer fee that Everton would have paid last summer had City agreed to a permanent switch for the 33-year-old at the time. Nor is it clear whether or not Everton paid a loan fee to take Barry for the current season (like they did for Romelu Lukaku), as reports suggested they did at the time.

Arsenal are again being linked with a move for Barry in the Sunday Papers, with the Daily Star making the latest claims.

Originally brought in for cover when Gibson went out. But he's been exceptional at his job. If not Barry, we need someone of his ilk, experience and playing style added in the middle, especially since we#re playing in the Euro later this year and need to add to the numbers instead of selling-sideways. Which Bobby has already said doesn't need to happen.
