To try and put a realistic look at this one.
We have ...imo ...one of the most potent strike forces going into next season. Rhodes and Gestede will get a load of goals over a season for us.
We also have some very decent creative players in Cairney, Conway, Marshall and King.
What we do need is someone who won't chuck their toys when they aren't playing. Like Best etc. we need to be realistic, we can't expect real quality to sit around, in the Championship. We need someone who can do an okay job every so often. What we don't see is training, and how an individual is around the dressing room. By all accounts Varney has a decent enough attitude. We won't be spending money on a player to sit on the bench. Okay, Varney is no quality signing. He isn't a world beater, but he can do a job every so often. With no fee involved, and low wages it makes sense. A squad player. We spend money on a centre half, a right back and possibly a left back. We make do with Varney. Feeney has gone to Bolton

In all honesty I've softend on Varney. When we're a couple of goals up, he's handy for being a total pain in the arse for the opposition defence. Hence keeping the ball out of our half for longer. But that really is his game. As long as he's used like and our defence is sorted, all will be good.
