    Changing face of Dumfries

Hot on the heels of the announcement that Gowans of CD (a firm well over a 100 years old) are to close their branch in English Street, Dumfries comes the news that Patties, the outdoor clothing and equipment outlet in Queensberry Street, Dumfries are to close its doors. The large building has been in the family for 95 years. Also the Queensberry Hotel, in English Street, Dumfries is to go under the hammer at an auction in Edinburgh next Tuesday. The current owners went into administration last October.

Can't honestly remember the last time I set foot in Patties of Dumfries .

Sad to see it go but not really surprised

Queensberry failed to attract any interest but Richard's Tavern (Dickies) and the Balmoral still for sale. New pub / restaurant opening at the Stoop in Lockerbie Road (opposite Tesco) called Lockards Farm in September

yep changing indeed, although I have recently heard (again) that Primark are looking at Dumfries with a view to opening an outlet, maybe what was Millets on Queensberry/ Munches Street and there's the new Gastro Pub on Church Crescent opening in September although what the hell a Gastro Pub is baffles me, ps i blame the start of the demise of the Town Centre all the way back to the absurd decision to pedestrianise it,
