    Rugby park goes plastic

Kilmarnock are starting the installation of a 3G playing surface on Monday. The first team will train on it, all their youths will play on it and they reckon it will be used 7 days a week.

Hamilton are in next season's Premiership making a second artificial surface in play.

Can we expect more to follow? Should we join the trend? - view external link

Yes we should Id much rather see the million quid we've p1ssed on our pitch over the last 4 seasons to have gone on players wagers and also generate cash 7 days a week.

Does undersoil heating still work with these things? Or do they not freeze over as easily?
Capital and running costs, access and availability will likely carry the day over tradition.

The sub layers are mixture of plastics and they are frost resistant undersoil heating not necessary

Grass or plastic makes no odds to me these days; revenue does - time to jump on the bandwagon, make things easier all-round and get an extra revenue stream or 2. That said, the redevelopment of the Muirhouse pitches must complicate matters in some way or another??

Not until the quality of these pitches improve.
